Oh, beautiful dolphin You make me so joyful and happy I long to swim with you And play all day long with you
He comes from the ocean He is a silvery color that shines in the sun And his tail splashes When he does tricks Oh dolphin I love the way you jump and dive And swim around in the sea Oh beautiful dolphin
An Ode to Mac and Cheese
By: Cory Healy
I've always been
quite hard to please
but never when
there's Mac and Cheese.
That scrumptious bowl
which comes so hot
from microwave
or from a pot.
Macaroni shells
all shapes and sizes
Spongebobs, swoops,
and monsters –but
only one cheese package.
I tear it with my teeth
and spill cheese powder
all over the counter.
I trace a face into it's mess.
Mom surveys the
mess I made
and shoos me out
and sets the noodle-water
in the microwave.
The timer counts down
and the bowl spins and spins
and the light shines out
from the black, humming box
like a lighthouse beacon
guiding me back to shore.
Now I'm being scolded
for the counter cheese,
but I'm too busy starring,
anticipating
that moment when I'll
eat that first
piping hot
forkful
that I won't wait
to cool down
for at least 30 seconds
like Mom tells me to.
Finally it's done,
the beacon's gone,
I've come ashore
to the kitchen counter,
Mom grabs another
cheese packet,
stirs
and warns me it's hot
but I think not
and my mouth
gets scorched.
That cheesy powder
now cheesy melt, an
ooey-goey mix of joy,
whether you dig in
or mix it around
for the squelching sound.
Happiness
is a warm bowl.
Ode to Pizza By Alex Liu Pizza is yummy, pizza is steamy, tastes like cheese, hear the crunch as you eat, smells like tomatoes, it is triangular, feels like there is a million tiny rocks,
It is all mine! I eat it all up, It once was in the oven, But now in my mouth!
Can you get bigger, so I can eat more?! Please get bigger, I can’t stop eating! You are so delicious! * Ode to Bugs by Alex You are colorful, and germy. You can be hard or soft, hear it shrill, or rustle in the leaves.
You were once underground. You are dirty, when you are caught. What does it fel like? Give me an answer in about a month No you will forget in one day!
Ode to Cupcakes
by Kee Moe Thi Han
My mouth waters
and my stomach grumbles
as the baker twirls
the chocolate mix.
Be careful not to trip
and stumble
before I get my share
of tasty licks.
The frosting at the top
looks like a rose
but tastes like vanilla
mixed with whipped cream.
If you leave one
under my hungry nose,
it will crawl
into my delicious dream.
Oh sweet cupcake!
you are the perfect treat,
not too big like cake
or small like candy.
So get a glass of milk
and stretch your feet,
take a bite and exclaim,
“Wow! That's dandy!”
An Ode to Cats By Isabel Li
Furry Cute Harmless
O you darling cats You make me relaxed when I am angry So pretty in the sunlight Meowing and purring in all sweet ways
Not big Not small O you cats O you darling cats How I long to spend all day with you
Why do you chase mice? What does cat food taste like? What do you mean when you purr?
O you sweet cats So many mysteries to solve
Ode to a blank page
by Zoe Klatz
You lay in front of me,
A challenge.
“Go ahead,” you say, “I dare you.”
You came from something mighty.
Once,
You held fast in earth, soil,
Stretched skyward everyday,
Grew a thick skin around you,
Allowed birds to nest in your fingertips
And allowed people to carve their initials into your side.
Iced over for winter,
Quietly melting in the spring.
You are wiser than the brains
That belong to the feet
That climb up you to see the world from a new angle.
Somebody destroyed you and you had no say, for your triumphant, majestic fall.
You went to a factory one day a humble tree
And came out sometime later as something new:
endless sheets of white blank pages for
Lyrics, essays, poems and dreams
Ideas
Waiting to be thought up.
“Go ahead,” you say, “I’m here for you. Go ahead—write.”
Ode to Penguins By Mark Oh penguins, big and small, beautiful colors and great swimmers. How you eat fish with your big bellies. Everytime someone Mentions you I feel extraordinary.
Waddle, waddle, slow And steady just Like the turtle. You’re so great I adopted one Of your kind Now I wonder If I can find A new Species Penguins, oh penguins *
Ode to my Hair By Jillian Doyle
Plucked
Tucked
Cut and trim
Pinned up
Sprayed to the prim.
Curled in ear sockets
Swirled in my pockets
Ponytail so tight,
My head numb.
Makes my cat hack.
Growing on my back
and bum.
Under my bed
Tangled on my head
I dye it lavender, fuchsia, black lead
Sometimes even red.
Little feet warmers
For my bellybutton
no need for cutt’n
growing out of every pore
long to the floor.
On my toes
and clothes
and fros
and bros
even up my enormous nose.
To keep me warm and
fit a norm
Should I shave?
Or get my initials engraved?
Get a Mohawk –
will people gawk?
Sometimes
I wish
I had no hair at all.

Ode To My Polo Shoes
By Keyla Hernández
Oh, my polo shoes.
You keep me warm in style
You let me look cool for a little while
I wish I had a million of you to pile
Addiction
You are my fiction
A contradiction
Of different colors
Blue, red, green, orange, and yellow
You make me feel mellow
Can’t wait to put you on
You are like my favorite love song
You make me want to dance
Destiny, it was all chance
The last pair
I don’t even care
I think it was fair
You’re all mine
My valentine.
